Our Physician Assistants

Physician Assistants (PAs) are highly trained and licensed to practice medicine. PAs conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery, and in North Carolina can write prescriptions. Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants are an integral part of geriatric care in North Carolina.

I hold personal and professional interests in aging with dignity and providing comfort and counsel to residents and families during life transitions. Keeping the concerns of families and residents center at times when medical issues become complicated and communication is difficult is important to me, and a goal I hope to achieve with all my patients.

I was an ICU nurse for six years before returning to school to become a physician assistant. My focus since becoming a PA has been internal medicine, with the last 14 years spent caring for geriatric patients. My first-hand experience with all the changes in health care in the last 25 years gives me unique insight into the difficulty patients and families have in understanding health care today. I am committed to helping geriatric patients and their families achieve quality of life as well as quality of medical care.

As a practicing PA I find the most joy in working with patients who are suffering from Alzheimer’s dementia. The management of patients suffering from this disease is challenging for the medical community. I find it very fulfilling to partner with medical specialists, nurses and social workers as we attempt to help both patients and families through this tumultuous disease state. My ultimate goal is to participate in bringing an awareness of the importance of Alzheimer's research at both the state and federal level.
